Digestive Support Supplements
Good digestion underpins almost every other health goal, which is why this is one of our largest collections. Digestive support supplements include probiotics that are a source of beneficial bacteria to help support intestinal health; digestive enzymes that help digest proteins, carbohydrates and fats; L-glutamine, an amino acid involved in intestinal tissue; soluble fibre that helps promote regularity; and botanical formulas traditionally used to help relieve digestive discomfort.

How do our naturopaths choose? They look for strain-specific probiotics with guaranteed potency at expiry rather than at manufacture, enzymes with stated activity units, and clean excipient lists. Every item is practitioner-grade and licensed with a Health Canada NPN, and we prioritize brands that disclose third-party testing where they state it.
Top brands in this category are NFH and Designs for Health, alongside Genestra and Metagenics. Best sellers include NFH Probio SAP, NFH Digestive Enzymes SAP and NFH L-Glutamine SAP.

Frequently asked questions
Should I take probiotics with or without food?
Follow the label first. Many practitioner probiotics are taken with a meal, which buffers stomach acid and helps bacteria reach the intestine. Consistency matters more than timing, so pick a moment you will remember every day.
Do I need digestive enzymes if I already take probiotics?
They do different jobs. Enzymes help break down food during a meal; probiotics are a source of live bacteria for the intestinal environment. Some people benefit from one, some from both. A naturopath can review your meals and symptoms to suggest a starting point.
How many CFU should a probiotic have?
More is not automatically better. The right count depends on the strains and the goal, and ranges from a few billion to 100 billion CFU per serving. Look for named strains, potency guaranteed to expiry and an NPN rather than the biggest number on the box.
